What is a Boysenberry?

Boysenberry

A Boysenberry is a hybrid berry from Blackberry, Red Raspberry, Dewberry, and Loganberry. Boysenberries were bred by Rudolf Boysen in Northern California in the early 1900’s. They are luscious and highly desirable berries, but can be very hard to find.  Boysenberries can be some of the most expensive brambles to purchase.

Along with black currants, Schramm’s Mead makes many of its best meads with boysenberries. We use high quality, whole fruit and traditional winemaking techniques like pigeage, barrel aging, and using only free run wine to make the best product possible. Check out one of our fruit meads made with boysenberry in our online store and taste one today.
